Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how PlateCost ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use platecost.app ("Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a hashed value — we never store your plain-text password).

Restaurant and business data: Ingredients, recipes, menu items, expense figures, and other operational data you enter into the Service.

Billing information: Subscription and payment data is processed by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer ID but do not store full card numbers on our servers.

Communications you send us: If you request a demo, ask for support, request account deletion, or enable optional weekly digest emails, we process the contact details and message content needed to deliver or respond to those communications.

Technical service data: Our hosting and infrastructure providers may generate limited request, performance, and error logs as part of operating and securing the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Process payments and manage your subscription
  • Send transactional emails such as password resets
  • Route demo requests and support replies to the right inbox and respond to you
  • Deliver optional product emails you enable, such as weekly digest reports
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Improve the Service using aggregated, anonymized usage data

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Supabase with encryption at rest. Connections to our Service use HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate PlateCost:

  • Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase — database hosting. Subject to Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — application hosting. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • Resend — email delivery for password resets, demo requests, account-deletion requests, and optional weekly digest emails. Subject to Resend's Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI — recipe import drafting and invoice-photo OCR extraction. If you use pasted recipe import or invoice scanning, the recipe text or uploaded image is sent to OpenAI so PlateCost can draft fields for your review before you choose to save them. Subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

These services may collect or process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

5. Cookies

PlateCost uses required first-party cookies to keep you logged in and a limited persistent first-party preference cookie to remember settings such as your display-decimal preference between sessions. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but core parts of the Service will not function correctly without the required authentication cookies, and saved preferences may reset without the preference cookie.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, your personal data and restaurant data will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days after we verify and process that request.

Billing records may be retained longer as required by law or for tax and accounting purposes.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct some account and restaurant data via your account settings
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export monthly profit-report CSVs in-app on Pro and Scale, or contact support if you need help accessing other account data

Some of these rights can be exercised through your account settings, and you can always contact us at support@platecost.app for help with any of them.

8. Children's Privacy

PlateCost is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice within the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
